BREAKING‼️: Just in from David Ornstein ✅ Latest update on Alexander Isak for Liverpool fans

David Ornstein has reported that a transfer to Liverpool for Alexander Isak remains a genuine possibility during the final stretch of the summer window.

The Newcastle striker’s future is clouded in uncertainty after he effectively downed tools in an attempt to push through a move to Anfield. He was notably absent from his side’s 3-2 defeat to Liverpool at St James’ Park last night, further fuelling speculation.

Earlier this month, Newcastle rejected a £110m bid from the Reds and have been adamant that they won’t sanction his sale before next Monday’s deadline unless manager Eddie Howe secures an attacking replacement first.

Ornstein leaves door open for late Liverpool move

Writing in The Athletic’s Transfer DealSheet, Ornstein explained that no decisive developments were expected until after Newcastle’s clash with Liverpool. Now that the fixture has passed, he suggests that more clarity could emerge in the coming days.

While Newcastle’s stance is clear — they don’t plan to part ways with the Swedish international — their ongoing pursuit of reinforcements, such as Yoane Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen, hints at a possible shift. Should they succeed in strengthening and Liverpool return with an improved bid, a transfer could still materialize before the window closes. However, Ornstein warns there are many uncertainties, and the situation may not be resolved until the very last moment.

Saga heading for a dramatic finale?

The clock is ticking. Newcastle must either convince Isak to reintegrate into Howe’s plans or replace him, while Liverpool weigh up whether to submit a second offer. Both clubs will be relieved to have last night’s fixture behind them, given how it added further intensity to an already heated transfer saga.

Isak, who scored 23 league goals last season — second only to Mo Salah — would be a major coup for Liverpool if the deal happens. If not, the Reds will lean on Hugo Ekitike, who has hit the ground running with three goals in his first three appearances since arriving from Eintracht Frankfurt.

As the deadline draws near, all eyes are on whether this long-running saga ends with a blockbuster twist or fizzles out in disappointment.
