BREAKING NEWS: Two of Liverpool’s most important players are expected to leave the club next year.
Several Liverpool players face an uncertain future at the club due to unresolved contract situations and potential squad changes. Among the most notable names are Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all of whom are in the final year of their current deals at Anfield. Despite the club’s desire to retain these key players, delays in addressing their contract extensions have left Liverpool in a vulnerable position.
Speculation about their futures has intensified in recent weeks. Salah has been heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, where clubs are eager to secure his services with lucrative offers. Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s interest in Alexander-Arnold is no longer a secret. The Spanish giants are reportedly keen to make him their next Galáctico, joining the ranks of high-profile stars like Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé.
However, the contract uncertainty isn’t limited to outfield players. Former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby has raised concerns about the future of the club’s goalkeeping department. According to Molby, both Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher could leave Liverpool next summer following the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili. The Reds signed the Georgian goalkeeper during the last transfer window but immediately sent him on loan to Valencia. Mamardashvili is expected to join the squad next season, which could spell trouble for Alisson and Kelleher.
Speaking to the Anfield Index, Molby explained:
“Mamardashvili is obviously on loan at Valencia, and they clearly thought he was value for money, so they acted quickly. Alisson Becker has never publicly expressed a desire to leave, but you get the sense he might want to try something new. And we haven’t signed Mamardashvili just to sit him on the bench—he’s likely being groomed as our first-choice goalkeeper.”
Molby also pointed out the challenges facing Kelleher, who has spent most of his Liverpool career as a backup to Alisson. “Kelleher knows that as soon as Alisson returns from injury, he’ll go back to the bench. Clubs like Chelsea and Spurs still need to improve their goalkeeping options, and if opportunities arise for Kelleher, it would be hard for both him and Liverpool to say no. I wouldn’t be surprised if both our first- and second-choice goalkeepers leave next summer,” Molby added.
Alisson, having won virtually every major honor with Liverpool, might consider a move to seek a new challenge. Meanwhile, Kelleher, a highly talented goalkeeper, is likely to pursue regular playing time elsewhere. At 24 years old, he is too good to only feature when Alisson is unavailable.
With key players like Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold facing unresolved contract situations, and both Alisson and Kelleher potentially departing, Liverpool could be bracing for a major squad overhaul. Manager Arne Slot may find himself forced into a rebuilding phase as he navigates the challenges of keeping the team competitive while preparing for significant changes in personnel.
