Bruno Fernandes has opened up about why Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield left him feeling dissatisfied, despite the team delivering one of their best performances of the season. The midfielder expressed frustration over the squad’s inability to consistently play at the same high level.

The game followed United’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to Newcastle at Old Trafford, leading many to expect league leaders Liverpool to dominate. However, United surprised fans with a strong showing, earning a hard-fought draw in an intense match.

United defended resolutely in the first half, keeping Liverpool at bay. Early in the second half, Lisandro Martinez broke the deadlock with a clinical strike. But Liverpool quickly fought back. Cody Gakpo equalized, and a penalty conceded by Matthijs de Ligt for a handball allowed Mohamed Salah to put Liverpool ahead. United responded with determination, and Amad Diallo’s late goal secured a vital point.

After being named Man of the Match, Fernandes shared his thoughts with Sky Sports. “The league table reflects our inconsistency,” he said. “We’ve dropped far too many points this season. Even today, we can’t celebrate the draw because we need the points more than Liverpool.”

He added, “It’s a good result, and we could have even won. But it’s frustrating—if we can perform like this against Liverpool, the best team in the league, why don’t we do it every week?”

Fernandes emphasized the need for sustained intensity. “We have to take pride in every game. What we showed today should be the standard, not the exception. This level isn’t enough if we don’t maintain it.”

When asked about the team’s inconsistency, Fernandes admitted it’s a mystery. “We have the quality, but we don’t show it every week. Today we proved what we can do, and now we need to keep it up.”

Looking ahead to an FA Cup clash with Arsenal, Fernandes stressed the importance of building on this performance. “We want to get to the final again, and to do that, we have to play like this in every game,” he said. However, he cautioned against complacency. “It’s easy to give your best in big games like this, but we need the same commitment against teams like Southampton. Every match is a battle, and we have to push ourselves every time.”

Manchester United’s spirited performance against Liverpool revealed their potential, but Fernandes’ comments highlight the ongoing struggle with consistency. To meet their objectives this season, United must match this energy in every game. His message to the squad was clear: consistency is essential for success.
