Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has revealed that one player remains a doubt to start in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Tottenham.

Joe Gomez is confirmed as the only player unavailable due to injury for the trip to north London. Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konaté and Conor Bradley have both recovered and returned to action during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United at the weekend.

Dominik Szoboszlai, who missed the United game due to illness, remains uncertain for the Spurs clash. In his pre-match press conference, Slot shared an update on the Hungarian midfielder, noting that Szoboszlai missed Monday’s training session. While there’s hope he could rejoin the squad today, his chances of starting tomorrow appear slim.

Speaking about Liverpool’s number 8 (via Liverpool FC on YouTube), Slot said: “Yesterday, he wasn’t in yet, so we’ll see if he’s in today. I doubt he’s available to start the game, but hopefully, he’ll be involved.”

Szoboszlai’s potential inclusion in the matchday squad would be a welcome boost for Liverpool. He delivered a standout performance against Tottenham just before Christmas, scoring once and providing an assist in the Reds’ 6-3 victory.

The Hungarian’s last appearance came on Boxing Day, having been suspended for Liverpool’s 5-0 win over West Ham and then sidelined by illness for the United game. With limited opportunities to feature recently, Szoboszlai will be eager to get back on the pitch.

Given the scheduling, it’s unlikely he’ll be risked for the FA Cup game against Accrington Stanley next weekend. If he doesn’t play against Spurs, his next opportunity might come in the crucial Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest in a week’s time.

Although Slot hasn’t entirely ruled out Szoboszlai for tomorrow’s game, it seems likely he’ll start on the bench if included. Curtis Jones is expected to retain his place in the starting XI despite criticism of his performance on Sunday.

Liverpool fans will be hoping to see Szoboszlai back in action, even if only as a substitute, as the Reds aim to secure an advantage in their Carabao Cup semi-final.
