“He was the reason we have been having bad games. After loosing so many matches,we have to tell the coach to bench him and play the younger star. This was why we didn’t lost today”-Bruno Fernandes’ drop brutal honest post-match interview after Man United’s draw against Liverpool goes viral after revealing the secret and what he told the coach.
Bruno Fernandes’ candid post-match interview following Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool has gained widespread attention, with fans praising the captain for his forthright comments.
The draw came after United’s dismal 4-0 loss to Newcastle on December 30, their fourth consecutive defeat, which had left supporters anxious about their clash with league leaders Liverpool at Anfield. However, the Red Devils showed marked improvement, securing a hard-fought draw against Arne Slot’s in-form side.
Lisandro Martinez opened the scoring for United with a thunderous strike, but Liverpool hit back through goals from Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah. Amad Diallo then netted a well-deserved equalizer, capping off a performance that was arguably United’s best under manager Ruben Amorim this season.
The result lifted United to 13th place in the Premier League standings, edging ahead of West Ham on goal difference and maintaining a seven-point cushion above the relegation zone.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Fernandes admitted his disappointment with United’s inconsistency and reflected on his own performance.
“We deserve the criticism because our league position speaks for itself,” he said. “We’ve dropped far too many points, and even today, we can’t celebrate a draw because we need the points more than Liverpool.
“It was a fair result; both teams played with intensity and quality. But I’m frustrated. If we can perform like this against Liverpool, the top team in the league, why can’t we do it every week?
“I’m also frustrated with myself because today felt like the first time in a while I delivered a performance I can be proud of. We need to hold ourselves to higher standards if we want to achieve anything this season. We need to play with pride because what we’ve shown so far isn’t good enough.”
Fernandes’ honest assessment resonated with fans, many of whom have called for greater accountability and consistency from the team.
United’s next test will be against Arsenal in the FA Cup third round at the Emirates Stadium. As the reigning champions, having defeated Manchester City in last year’s final at Wembley, they will be looking to rediscover their form and defend their title.
