Chelsea’s hopes of securing a Champions League spot took a significant hit following a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park. The match was marred by a controversial red card issued to striker Nicolas Jackson in the 35th minute for an elbow on Sven Botman, leaving the Blues with ten men for the remainder of the game.

The incident has sparked outrage among Chelsea supporters, with many taking to social media to express their frustration. One fan’s sentiment echoed the general mood: “Sell him NOW! He’s cost us everything! He’s a disgrace to Chelsea! Petulant, brainless, and now banned till the end of the season!”

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel also weighed in on Jackson’s performance, stating, “Jackson, he does a little bit here and there. We need a top striker like we did back in our day.”

Pundits Joe Cole and Peter Crouch have similarly voiced concerns about Chelsea’s attacking options. Crouch commented, “I like him, I think he’s good but I don’t think he’s the answer,” suggesting that Chelsea needs a traditional No.9 to lead the line effectively.

Manager Enzo Maresca expressed visible frustration over Jackson’s dismissal, which not only impacted the match but also rules the striker out for the remainder of the season due to suspension.

With only two Premier League games remaining, Chelsea’s path to Champions League qualification has become increasingly challenging. The club faces mounting pressure to address the issues plaguing the team and to restore pride to the badge.
