Manchester United’s dismal 0–2 defeat to West Ham at Old Trafford has ignited a firestorm among supporters, with many calling for the immediate departure of midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The Uruguayan international’s performance was widely criticized, as his error directly led to West Ham’s second goal, scored by Jarrod Bowen in the 58th minute.

Ugarte’s misstep was emblematic of United’s broader struggles this season. The Red Devils have now suffered 17 league defeats—their worst tally since the 1973–74 relegation season—and sit perilously close to the relegation zone in 16th place.

Manager Ruben Amorim, facing mounting pressure, admitted post-match that fundamental changes are needed at the club, including shifts in team and club culture. He described this phase as a “decisive moment” in the club’s history and acknowledged that the Europa League final merely masks deeper issues.

As United prepares for their upcoming Europa League final against Tottenham on May 21, the club faces a critical juncture. The performance against West Ham has not only jeopardized their domestic standing but also raised serious questions about the squad’s composition and the future of key players like Ugarte.

The coming weeks will be pivotal for Manchester United as they seek to salvage their season and restore faith among their supporters.
