Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has finally broken his silence regarding the shock omission of Alejandro Garnacho from the matchday squad that faced Aston Villa — and the reason has sparked a wave of reaction from fans and pundits alike.

Garnacho, who has been one of United’s brightest sparks this season, was expected to play a key role in the game at Villa Park. So when the team sheet dropped and the young Argentine was nowhere to be found — not even on the bench — speculation ran wild. Rumours of a potential fallout, injury concerns, or even disciplinary issues quickly flooded social media.

But Amorim has now come forward to put an end to the mystery.

Speaking after training at Carrington, the Portuguese boss said:

“There’s no issue between me and Garnacho. He’s a fantastic player, and he’s very much part of our plans. The decision to leave him out was purely tactical. I wanted a different kind of profile for that particular game — more verticality and direct pressure off the ball.”

Amorim went on to stress that Garnacho is not injured and remains available for selection.

“We had a specific plan against Villa’s buildup, and I needed players with certain characteristics to press high and recover the ball quickly. It was a difficult call, but these decisions happen at the top level. Garnacho understood it.”

The manager also hinted at Garnacho’s likely return in the next fixture, adding:

“He’s trained really well. He’ll have his chance again very soon — maybe even in the next game. It’s about balance, and with the depth we have, no one can play every single match.”

Fans have reacted with mixed emotions. Some appreciate Amorim’s honest explanation, while others feel leaving out such a game-changer in a key fixture was a tactical misstep.

Regardless, one thing is now clear: there’s no drama — just strategy. And Garnacho will be back in red very soon.
