Manchester United legend Roy Keane delivered a scathing critique of his former club following their humiliating 4-1 loss to Newcastle United at Old Trafford. The defeat marked United’s 14th in 32 games this season, solidifying their worst-ever Premier League campaign with a maximum possible finish of 56 points.

Keane, speaking on Sky Sports, expressed disbelief at the team’s lackluster performance, stating, “Is my voice getting higher?” as he lamented the defensive collapse during Harvey Barnes’ second goal.  He emphasized the need for more aggressive defending and criticized the absence of team cohesion and accountability.

Under manager Ruben Amorim, United’s struggles have been compounded by inconsistency and tactical rigidity, notably his steadfast adherence to a 4-3-2-1 formation despite limited suitable personnel. Amorim’s post-match comments acknowledged Newcastle’s superior performance and focused on learning and moving forward.

Adding to United’s woes, striker Joshua Zirkzee suffered a hamstring injury during the match, leaving Rasmus Højlund as the club’s only available striker ahead of their crucial Europa League fixture against Lyon. Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, replacing the sidelined André Onana, also struggled, contributing to Newcastle’s emphatic win.

Newcastle dedicated their victory to ailing manager Eddie Howe, who was absent due to illness. The win marked Newcastle’s first league double over Manchester United since the 1930-31 season.

As Manchester United’s season continues to unravel, Keane’s scathing remarks underscore the urgent need for introspection and change within the club.
